1. The Competency Level (CL) is a set of building blocks for BCM Institute's training and certification requirement. It consists of three levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced. Within the intermediate and advanced levels, it is further divided into another two tiers: there are CL2 and CL4 for business continuity domain; and CL 3 and CL 5 for disaster recovery domain respectively. The arrangement of the tiers represents the increasing level of specificity and specialization of the business continuity and disaster recovery skills and knowledge content.

Business Continuity Management
Viewing the diagram, the domain of CL 1: Foundation will be taught in the foundation course (BCM-200 course preparing for the BCCP certification exam). This is followed by:
- CL 2: Intermediate (BC) (BCM-300 preparing for the BCCS certification exam) .
- CL 3: Advanced (BC) (BCM-400 preparing for the BCCE certification exam).
Disaster Recovery
As for the disaster recovery courses, the domain of:
- CL 4: Intermediate (DR) is taught in the DRP-300 course (preparing for the DRCS certification exam)
- CL 5: Advanced (DR) is in DRP-400 or DRP-5000 course (preparing for the DRCE certification exam).
BCM Audit
As for the BCM Audit courses, the BCM Body of Knowledge Audit (BCMBoK Audit) domain of:
- CL 6: Intermediate (BCM Audit) is taught in the BCM-840 course or equivalent(preparing for the BCCA certification examination).
- CL 7: Advanced (BCM Audit) is in BCM-8040 course or equivalent(preparing for the BCCLA certification examination).
